Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has withdrawn from the Asian Games 2023 men’s javelin throw competition in Hangzhou, China, due to knee pain. Nadeem, the Commonwealth Games champion and world championships silver medallist, was expected to face world No.1 Neeraj Chopra.

Chopra was sidelined due to injury, and his top rivals in Hangzhou include Kishore Jena, world No. 8 Genki Roderick, Asian championship bronze medallist Muhammad Yasir, and Asian record holder Chao-Tsun Cheng. Chopra, the reigning world, Olympic, and Asian Games champion, will defend his continental crown in Hangzhou.

The Asian Games 2023 will be Chopra’s final competition of the year, as MRI scans revealed Nadeem’s chronic knee injury. Chopra and Nadeem claimed the top two podiums at the Budapest World Championships earlier this year.
